Three Castles Head
Our first castle to visit here is Three Castles Head. It was a very incredible place to experience. We decided to go after dinner with the days being long here and sun does not set till 8:30. We didn’t now what we were getting ourselves into. We parked in a parking lot by a cliff and bellow a sheep farm which had a honesty box and asked for three euros per person. Seamed fair, the longer we are here the more we realized that to get to the castles one has to walk through private property so being on good terms with the local farmers seams like a good idea. We trudged through a mile of sheep pastures over looking the incredible sea scape of the wild Atlantic. Oh to be a fly on a sheeps back in Ireland. These must be happy sheep or cows which ever the case. Then up the rocky terrain and down into a hidden valley nestled a top cliffs where three castle towers guard a private lake.
All together it was a 3 mile hike to the castle and around the lake and back. This has to be the most fantastic castle. I can’t imagine a more enchanting place, a castle on a cliff, in a valley with its own private lake surrounded by the Atlantic.
Glad to see the trip is off to a good start! I strongly recommend the Aran Isles if you can get over there!
Thanks for suggesting, I’ll see how far it’s from us. Have you been to the Aran Isles?
